Here is a fun one and a quick one! What is found in any speech pathology clinic, can be black/white or in colour, laminated or not and can be used to work on anything from articulation to verbs, sentences, stories, vocabulary and more? A flashcard, of course! Feel like you need an activity to make flashcards fun? Here is one that is always in high demand at Now You’re Talking Speech Pathology (also, see below a document with activity ideas for picture cards).
How to play:
3. Say “Open your eyes”. In order to open a door/turn over a cup, the child needs to say the word in the picture. Is the toy there? No? Move to the next door/cup, until the toy is found.
4. Continue with more toys. Keep rotating your pictures to introduce more target words.
5. Stop whilst the kids are still having fun (it helps with motivation)!
For added fun, you can have a wind-up toy race. Some of them run in really erratic ways, which greatly adds to the fun and excitement.
This game can be adapted to plenty of different goals and speech pathology targets. For more ideas on things to do with picture cards, have a look at the attached document. It is written for parents and meant to accompany articulation cards, but anyone can read it and use it with other cards than articulation cards. Enjoy! Do you have a good activity? Share it below.
